Vic came by yesterday to give us our official weigh-in. This is one of several fabled portents that a balloon might launch soon. The scale read 4495lbs, but after subtracting CSBF’s electornics, and accounting for a few small changes before launch, we have about 4000lbs of “science weight”. Forty pounds heavier than expected. I blame lunch; lunch is too good.
I also took the opportunity to take a few photos of a shinier, whiter, silverier BLAST. This is the result of the weekend’s work of covering in mylar and white tape almost everything that will eventually need covering.
- Box Head returns, in more formal attire with a silver box and black dress
- Vic sets up the scale
- Joe operates the crane
- Joseph eyes Matt
- 4495lbs
- This is what 4000 pounds of science looks like
- “fucked up 13Dec2010”. Lorenzo deals with a dead star camera hard drive
- Reinstalling the new one. Late game repairs are scary
- BLAST’s chin is now covered in aluminuzed mylar. The starboard side is now fully shielded
- Under the chin
- These two unpopulated triangles are all that remain unfilled (and they have to stay open for access to the cryostat)
- View from the mezzanine
- And one more, for good measure
- BLAST hard hats
40lbs of white tape I can assure
What a beast! Good luck with the final prep…
