Yesterday was a momentous day in our flight. We switched from our targets far from the sun—mostly what we call the “axehead” in Vela—and moved a region in Lupus very near the sun. To celebrate, Tristan danced to the region’s theme song: Duran Duran’s Hungry Like the Wolf. (Yes, all of our targets have theme songs. I even wrote a script to play the songs automatically.)
I also have some pictures of the Icestock stage area, set up for the yearly outdoor New Year’s concert. It was pretty sweet. I also have a few pictures from Matt of the actual festivities in progress. I was on shift and couldn’t even check it out briefly.
Well that just made my day Tristan! Happy New Year. love kate
Out of curiosity, what was the Sun-angle tolerance of the BLAST telescope and baffles ?
Sam,
On the near-sun side we can look about 30-35 degrees in azimuth from the sun, with some dependence on telescope and sun elevation. On the other side, we don’t really want to look past anti-sun (no less than 180 degrees in azimuth from sun, or maybe even 200 degrees).
