Yesterday marked my one month anniversary here in Palestine, and nobody else in the original bunch has stayed here continuously. I have been here the longest. To celebrate the occasion, the city put on a huge fireworks display in the evening—or maybe they were celebrating some other, more obscure anniversary.
Being a Sunday, a holiday, and the day before Mark gets back, many people decided to take the day off. A few of us decided instead to have a slow-ish quiet day at the lab. I didn’t photograph any of it. But, we did go on a bike adventure along the path through the woods. I didn’t photograph any of that either. But then Tristan and I returned a pair of bikes to the other side of the base. I photographed that.
- The fanciest looking building. Administrators must live there
- They have a garden and a barbecue/lunch/shaded area
- Another highbay. A hexagonal hughbay
- Flags. Texas and USA have equal prominence, CSBF less so
- Clearly a focal point for visitors, this place has a bench
- Plaques about the rededication of this site in memory of the astronauts on Columbia
- Building 26. Probably more of a building than Building 19 (the pi frame), but I’m still amused at the things that get Building numbers here
- There is a gym on the other side, that some people drive (!!!) over to use
- Beside the gym is a strange room containing this chalk board…
- …and the only other thing, except shelves of boxes in this slightly-askew painting
- Apparently the quality of the room has been certified. They must straighten the painting for inspections
- Shipping and receiving. When we’re impatient, we sometimes pick things up there ourselves
- Tiny Tim lives over there too. (Notice how the spare tires are larger than the other vehicles)
- Visitor Center. Source of CSBF schwag
- Building 9 is small, but very patriotic
- The gates, with Tristan walking ahead, back to our side
- Physical Science Laboratory is the contractor that makes CSBF happen
- The main sign
- No Trespassing
- The shady area outside the machine shop
- The base of the water tower
- It lies below the water tower
