So, it turns out yesterday I made the hundredth post to this site! Hundredth! (And I completely failed to notice at the time…) Anyway, yesterday was a quiet half-day Sunday. We slept in and experienced Sunday brunch for the first time (except me; I slept in too long). Ben, a GA who visited here before, decided to spend his day off helping us out, and mylarized the scoop with Juan. Otherwise work proceeded on software, and Team Can’t Proceed Without Helium tackled the sun shields and solar panel holders.

Ben decided that science is so fun, he should do it on his day off (actually he has a degree in physics, so he probably already decided science is fun)

Final check of the hubs

Matt’s office, now complete with Princess Katie and little Sarek

The sun shields, in all their largeness

Elio and Nick add the final bits to the pivot shelf at the top

The TDRSS High Gain Antenna (HGA)

With rapid two-person progress, the bottom layer is now half enclosed
-
-
And before long, there’s just a single doorway panel open
-
-
Juan works on joining the layers
-
-
Then notices that Mark has a good vantage point, and waves
-
-
At some point the sunshields were brought inside. Tristan got this picture of Nick that demonstrates why people must bring sunglasses to Antarctica (it’s bright!)
-
-
I eventually notice that the shields are inside, and decide to take a picture

Nick holds the solar panel holder, while it’s being fit

Elio holds a support strut

Bolts painted shut are a pain to open again

Mark gets the grinder for some fit modifications
-
-
Then uses the grinder, to grind
-
-
I’m going to assume that this face expresses grinder envy
