A couple days ago we had a team of riggers and safety folks show up to weigh BLAST again. We thought we’d gained more weight than had been accounted for. Turns out we lost weight, so it was good we remeasured.
In the afternoon I took some pictures while Tristan had us push the limits of our elevation range. Every quarter degree counts for his aggressive flight schedules.
- Picture of Luke that was way underexposed and hastily “fixed”. I kind of like it
- Similarly for Cory, operating the crane
- Unlike Luke, I got a proper picture of Cory too
- Vic does his Ladder Man crane-thing
- “We lost weight?! How’d that happen?”
- Number crunching to account for known future mass changes
- The whole lean 4475lbs of BLAST
- How low can you go? 23.5degrees.
- Going up now to test the upper limit
- Pointing all the way up
- All the way up, as seen from the side
- And because I don’t have a lot of pictures for this day: the other side too
Luke made the cover! This picture shows his true colors- multi. Thank you again for an interesting and often humorous photo blog.

I like that picture too. Thanks for the blog!

Technical question if I may: What is the elevation range of the BLAST telescope ? 23.5 degrees (as mentioned above) to 60 (?) degrees ?
~23 to 55deg in elevation.
