I’m trying to get caught up on photos, so here’s a bunch from yesterday (this time posted the next morning, not way later!).
Much of the time was spent setting up all of the electronics that could be crammed into the Bemco chamber. Needless to say, not everything worked. There was also some fun with really, really hard to move bolts (aluminum on aluminum == bad).
We also get to see the world from the point of view of Natalie’s SSC (the Spider[/Steve] Star Camera) which we are test flying to test and to help constrain the roll of BLAST.
- The ultralight SSC baffle (aka baffy)
- Me, as seen by Baffy
- Natalie takes a peek inside Baffy too
- More whitenizing: the solar panel holders
- The product of yesterday’s whitenizing: lots of boxes ready for the Bemco
- Setup of everything in the chamber begins
- I connect cables, Barth sets up power, Natalie sorts cables
- Some sort of horrible monster sneaks up on unsuspecting Natalie
- The afternoon was completely occupied with connecting cables
- The result is a tangles mess of stuff crammed into the chamber
- Coffee Break!
- Off they go
- The first approach to stuck bolt: mallet (mildly successful)
- Second approach: mega-wrench! Somewhat more successful (still not completely so)
- Clearly we don’t give Dina enough work to do
- Random Closeup: Natalie
- Random Closer-up: Barth’s Eye
- Signage: Real Scientists
- Signage: Safe crane operation for large cartoon men
- Signage: “Result of too much Bemco Testing”
